10 stunning DIY macramé projects for beginners

So you've decided to start knotting? Getting creative is an amazing feeling that allows you to get out of your head and into your hands. The macrame (or knotting) trend started in the '70s and it's back and trending now, with a modern twist of course. The art of macrame is a great way to get creative and make stunning projects for your home decor, your wardrobe, or beautiful handcrafted gifts for your loved ones.

When you're just getting started it can be easy to get overwhelmed with all the endless possibilities macrame has to offer. That's why we selected 10 stunning macrame projects that are totally suitable for beginners but will also be great fun for the more advanced macrame artists.

Okay, now let's dive in. First, let's cover the basics.

What do you need to start macrame?

The list of macrame supplies is almost limitless but luckily for most basic macrame projects, you don't need all that much. The following supplies will do to get you started.

  • Macrame rope;
  • Project board, you want a surface thick enough that you can stick pins into without them coming through your lap. This can be a padded clipboard, a corkboard or even a couple of square cardboard banded together;
  • Pins, T-Pins are ideal since they can hold thicker cord but corsage pins will do the job as well;
  • Scissors.
